Database

June 14, 2021 |  Categories:  Data

I've stripped down the database and started rebuilding it from scratch. There are currently two main areas: clubs and leagues.

Clubs
Clubs are "containers" for an organization's teams. Teams are individual, well, teams that played for a club.

A club can field different teams at the same time. For example, the Chattanooga FC club has both women's and men's teams. A club can also field the same team that, over time, moves to a new city and/or rebrands. For example, the New Beford "club" formed in 1922 was originally the Fall River F.C. (aka the Marksmen). That "team" became the New York Yankees then ended as New Bedford in 1932.

A club's name in the database is the final name it had. So, given the above example the Fall River and New York Yankees teams are found under the New Bedford (1922) "club".

Leagues
Leagues are "containers" for an organization's league competitions. A league competition is an individual season held by that organization. For example, the ASL held two competitions during the 1933/34 soccer year.

Ongoing updates
I'm going to be adding new clubs and leagues over time. The database will include both old and new teams and competitions. I'm also going to be updating the structure of the site. I'll be adding more ways to view the information including search fields.
